Hollow Intellectual Drivel

A passing thought - why do our elites, in business, politics and Hollywood follow such empty headed weak ass intellectual drivel? Concepts like Scientology (see Hollywood), Ayn Rand inspired Libertarianism (see Wall Street and Ron Paul supporters ), NeoCon Economics and Political Philosophy (see the Republican Party ), Post/Neo-Maxism (see crazed leftist moonbats from Berkley ), Mormons for chrisakes.

I mean it's all hookum and BS and none of it ever works when tested against reality and all of the adherents respond with "Well, you weren't doing it right ..." Ah. Yes. Of course. The statement which is the last refuge of an ideologue. Yet our national dialogues are driven by these people. They're the talking heads that argue their comic book nonsense with each other on all the news shows day in and day out. I've given up on all major news media out of the US. No CNN. No ABC, CBS, NBC. Fox was never in the running. To quote Mark Twain, "If you don't read the newspaper, you are uninformed; if you do read the newspaper, you are misinformed."

I do not say this sarcastically; on the contrary, I am be VERY sincere:

THANK YOU for realizing and posting about this. Consider yourself a very lucky guy. Do you have any idea just how many Americans take that crap as their single source of credible \"fair and balanced\" information?

Take what\'s going in Gaza, for instance. American media does not show ANY of the carnage that Israel is causing.

I am completely against Hamas and the rockets they are launching but American media doesn\'t mention any of the following:

*Israel is using white phosphorous in a manner that breaches international law. White phosphorous literally burns your flesh to the bone.

*Israel has repeatedly fired rockets from helicopters that fly over particular demilitarized (DMZ) airspace according to the Camp David Accords, which basically says that neither Egypt nor Israel can have any soldiers or even police officers carrying weapons within this area.

*While only 10 or more Israeli soldiers have died, nearly a 1000 Palestinians have died, half of which are women and children.

*Israel has bombed schools, fully aware that there were children inside.

I can go on but what\'s the point? I have a few links to interesting Al Jazeera English articles on my latest post but even those should be taken with a grain of salt.

They key is to sift everything you read and the truth will inevitably fall through.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. You disappeared from Twitter. Everything alright?

About Me

So that's me there in that picture. Or me in anime/manga form. I'll probably change that picture from time to time. What else? Well, I call New York City home. My passions include, but are by no means limited to music, politics, capoeira, and good single malt scotch. I suppose if you need to know more than that just mosey on over to the about page more info.

A Quick Observation

Ah, death metal and ballet - two great tastes that go together. Well, if by together you use a crowbar and some sort of lube.

A Short Aside

One of my favorite pleasures is spending quiet Sunday mornings with a cup of coffee and the NY Times. Highlights from this Sunday include a piece about 1970's New York and it's reflection on the ABC show 'Life on Mars' , an appreciation for the TED lecture series, a profile of one of contemporary China's best selling writers, and the role of internet social networks and protests on the Arab street.

Oh and some more bullshit from Tom Friedman...

Listening

Burst Lazarus Bird

How I missed this magnificent disc last year escapes me. Out in a barren waste where Swedish death metal meets Pink Floydian textures and Tool's hypnotic repetitiveness. A stunning work of stark metal beauty.
