Deep Thought - Planet Hardrive
Woah. Pretty deep thought about the nature of information storage and the universe over at the Bldg Blog. I'm still chewing on all the brain gum it conjectures.
I've been fascinated by what might be called the geological nature of harddrives – how certain mineral arrangements of metal and ferromagnetism result in our technological ability to store memories, save information, and leave previous versions of the present behind....perhaps someday we won't actually need harddrives at all: we'll simply use geology itself. In other words, what if we could manipulate the earth's own magnetic field and thus program data into the natural energy curtains of the planet? The earth would become a kind of spherical harddrive, with information stored in those moving webs of magnetic energy that both surround and penetrate its surface.
Obama Points Out the Obvious
Obama points out the obvious to the morons in attendance
usual crowd, via the Wall Street Journal:
Challenged by one Republican senator over the contents of the package, the new president, according to participants, replied: "I won.”
The statement was prompted by Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona , who challenged the president and the Democratic leaders over the balance between the package’s spending and tax cuts, bringing up the traditional Republican notion that a tax credit for people who do not earn enough to pay income taxes is not a tax cut but a government check.
Obama noted that such workers pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, property taxes and sales taxes. The issue was widely debated during the presidential campaign, when Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee, challenged Obama’s tax plan as “welfare.”
With those two words — “I won” — the Democratic president let the Republicans know that debate has been put to rest Nov. 4.
Elections have consequences it seems.
Brian's Special
Here's a little something I sometimes cook up whenever it's my turn to take command in the kitchen. This simple, elegant dish has been dubbed "Brian's Special" around the homestead. The ingredients couldn't be more simple, as pictured above, just some sliced chicken sausage, various chopped vegetables (today it's carrots and string beans), chopped garlic, olive oil, sea salt and red pepper.
