Trip To Japan, November 2010

This was my 4th trip to Japan. My daughters first. This trip was more about seeing family & friends than doing alot of traditional sightseeing. The pictures and words on this page will reflect that.

So don't expect a travelog of exciting, cool Japan. This is Japan from the homespun side, something alot of tourists probably don't see.

I cannot stress so much how utterly cool, accomodating and civilized everyone in Japan is. I am not a huge fan of seafood so everyone accomodates me and I ate far more beef in the twelve days I was in Japan than was right. If I look at a cow again in the next few weeks it will be with disgust.

Peace,
Brian

Nara: Temples, Japanese Schoolgirls & Deer, Oh My!

We visited the ancient Japanese capital of Nara, which is well known, like Kyoto, for it's various temples. We only had a limited time on our day trip and decided to visit just Todaiji temple.

“Todaiji (Great Eastern Temple) is one of Japan's most famous temples and a landmark of Nara. Located in Nara Park, in central Nara, Todaiji was constructed in 752 as the head temple of all provincial Buddhist temples of Japan…Todaiji derives its name from its location east of Nara, which was the capital of Japan when it was built. Today, the temple serves as the Japanese headquarters of the Kegon school of Buddhism.”
