Heroes, Season 3

"Hiro, whatever you do, don't open the safe."

"Ando, I must open the safe immediately! Despite my father's express wishes, against all my cultural instincts as a Japanese to obey without question my ancestors dying pleas, and despite his dire and boneheadedly explicit warning that it will lead inexorably and directly to the end of the very world I have now saved twice already. I must open, nay! Ando, I am compelled to open this safe! Right now! And LO! My father has conveniently left behind this handy electronic safe opener gizmo in this unguarded box on my desk, and I seem to know the combination to this safe without even trying!....and what's this?! Upon opening this safe and holding up this dire formula that leads to the very destruction of the world, why immediately a thief steals it! A thief with the power of super speed! But I can stop time and I COULD take the formula out of her hand and say, I don't know, burn it, or eat it or, fuck, just put it back into the safe when she's frozen..and I could, if I was a dick you know, maybe stab her in the heart with this letter opener, but..you know what...I won't do that, although I could. In fact, any real human being with my powers in this situation WOULD do exactly that. No, I won't. I will let her get away with it and once again put the fate of the entire world into chance's hands just so I can create another silly plot device to keep this trainwreck rolling. And so that Mohinder can get his sex on with the sexy latina death chick."

"Hiro, That is a brilliant plan!"

"Thank you Ando...now quick..to the Gay Cave!"

The amazing thing is, you can do this for every character in the show.

Ha! I completely agree with you. There are so many scenes that are just so blatantly stupid and could have been avoided or better developed. Oddly enough, however, I keep watching... yeah...

About Me

So that's me there in that picture. Or me in anime/manga form. I'll probably change that picture from time to time. What else? Well, I call New York City home. My passions include, but are by no means limited to music, politics, capoeira, and good single malt scotch. I suppose if you need to know more than that just mosey on over to the about page more info.

A Quick Observation

Ah, death metal and ballet - two great tastes that go together. Well, if by together you use a crowbar and some sort of lube.

A Short Aside

One of my favorite pleasures is spending quiet Sunday mornings with a cup of coffee and the NY Times. Highlights from this Sunday include a piece about 1970's New York and it's reflection on the ABC show 'Life on Mars' , an appreciation for the TED lecture series, a profile of one of contemporary China's best selling writers, and the role of internet social networks and protests on the Arab street.

Oh and some more bullshit from Tom Friedman...

Listening

Burst Lazarus Bird

How I missed this magnificent disc last year escapes me. Out in a barren waste where Swedish death metal meets Pink Floydian textures and Tool's hypnotic repetitiveness. A stunning work of stark metal beauty.

The Love We Share Without Knowing

Christopher Barzak's fragile novel about love and loss set in contemporary Japan. Light like a wind chime, heavy enough to break your heart.

Watch your thoughts: thoughts become actions. Actions become habits. Habits become character. Character becomes destiny.
